Kadjar, Amarok, C’eed: what does it all mean? How much nicer to own a car called Chummy - and one that lives up to its name, too. The Austin 7 Chummy was so called because it was a four-seater that required the occupants to be a little close, friendly even, but the name suits the car in so many ways.

This jolly little 1929 Austin 7 Chummy is such a sweet motorcar and one that has been cherished by the vendor for the past 29 years. The car was restored shortly before he bought it and it is testament to the work of the restorer and the care of the owner that it is still so appealing today.

The black and blue paintwork has some imperfections but they only give the car an air of authenticity. The interior is almost unmarked (after 29 years!) with beautifully upholstered seats and smart blue carpeting and the very smart mohair hood is a recent addition. There is a full complement of side-screens with the car, too.

The engine was overhauled around 2,500 miles ago and the car starts easily and drives well. It has had a new battery fitted recently, and passed its MOT in July with no problems. The engine bay is as tidy as the rest of the car with all the right parts in all the right places, including the brass Zenith updraft carburettor. The car also has the benefit of Wefco gaiters protecting the front springs and comes with a 300 page guide to the Austin 7 and a 1949 handbook.

This is a lovely vintage example of the eternal Austin 7 in one of its more appealing forms and in ready-to-drive condition. The next owner might be advised to fit some new tyres, but other than that they should be able to look forward to the sort of happy ownership our vendor has enjoyed these past three decades.
