This 1971 Alfa Romeo 2000 Berlina spent most of its life in Southern Italy before being brought oop North and recently imported by Bill McGrath Maserati.

The colour is officially designated ‘Faggio’, which means beech tree in Italian, and for the record ‘Berlina’ means saloon (though why President Kennedy should declare himself a saloon in his famous 1963 speech we do not know. Perhaps he’d had one stein too many?).

The car was treated to new steering joints, a new clutch, various service items and a distributor cap earlier this year (total cost in excess of £800). It has also had any corrosion rectified, with new panels fitted by Town & Countryside Classics of Kimpton at a cost of £3,400.

All this good work meant that the car sailed through its MOT in March 2018 with no advisories and is now ready to hit the road with its new registration number, FMW 229J. It also has a certificate of authenticity.

This really is a quality Italian saloon with surprisingly spritely performance from its twin-cam 2.0 engine (132bhp). Practical, comfortable, stylish and sporty, this Alfa ticks all the boxes and is in rather lovely condition inside and out.

AMENDMENT:  Please note that the £3,400 restoration should in fact read £340 which included some floorpan repairs.
