There is something refreshing and just a little bit different about an unmolested Series Land Rover in grey and this early Series II is particularly appealing.

It’s a RHD model in original 12-seater specification – a 109" Station Wagon, making it even more of a rarity and especially attractive to those with a larger than average family.

794 UYP is a very early Series II, being the 30th model off the production line with a manufacturing date of 31st March, 1959, and is believed to be the second oldest surviving. The engine is not the original item, but is still a period-correct 2,286cc petrol engine. The Land Rover has been barn-stored for the past 10 years and was, at one time, the property of the Editor of Land Rover Monthly magazine.

It has recently been overhauled, with a complete new clutch system fitted, the brakes checked over (two new wheel cylinders) and the carburettor and fuel lines cleaned through. The Land Rover runs well now, but will need further light recommissioning and perhaps a new set of tyres before being used in earnest.

This Station Wagon looks in remarkably good condition for a working vehicle approaching its 60th birthday and its aura of originality is appealing. A little TLC will have it back on the road and ready for work or play. The ideal station hack for your boutique country hotel, rural retreat or off-grid living perhaps? Or maybe just a nice old Landie.
