Better than new? Quite probably, knowing BL’s reputation in the early 1970s. This 1973 Triumph TR6 was subjected to a full nut and bolt by the vendor and won the Concours D’Elegance award for Best standard TR6 at the TR Register International Weekend show at Malvern in 2017.

TLO 902M was despatched in October 1973 to Henly’s of London. Its early history is unknown, but it was off the road between 1986 and 2007, when TR Bitz sold it for restoration. This didn’t happen, our vendor acquiring the car in 2014 and organising for its rebuild. A photographic record of this huge undertaking accompanies the car.

During the restoration the colour was changed from the original Magenta to the current Light Blue (Honolulu Blue?), which was a Triumph option at the time.

The work was undertaken by specialist restorers R.B.W. Motors, of Skelton, in Cleveland, Co Durham and the car features on their website. The detail of work can be seen not only in the state of the car, but in the photographic records and invoices which accompany it. The vendor is only selling it as it is, in his opinion, “too good to use”. Total cost of the restoration was over £30,000. It is MOTd until June 2019 with no advisories (obviously!)

The car, including the engine, was returned to “standard” condition during the restoration but the suspension was stiffened by 25% to take it from boulevardier to more entertaining fast road spec. It was also marked with “smart water DNA” security throughout. The only other deviation from standard was the installation of Mazda MX5 seats, which is a popular upgrade amongst TR owners these days.

The successful bidder for this concours-winning car will need to do nothing to it and will receive a car that is in better shape than it was in 1973. The only quandary will be whether to drive it home or trailer it.
