Beloved by generations of surf-dudes and independent travellers, the iconic VW Transporter was launched way back in 1950 and is still in production, albeit in a rather different form, to this day.

Right from the early days, VW’s simple panel van was often customised by owners to double-up as accommodation, either for convenience or leisure, so it wasn’t long before VW decided to capitalise on this market themselves, appointing Westfalia to produce camper conversions which could be sold through their dealer network.

Other conversions soon became available, UK dealers offering Devon conversions which sold extremely well. This smart Devon was purchased through Brightwells earlier in the year, since when its new owner has done plenty of spending and put in lots of hours smartening up what was a good solid van, kindly saving you all that bother.

When it came into his hands, it had just had a freshly reconditioned motor fitted, so he was able to leave that aspect out of the equation. He has however spent considerable time and money on the bodywork, which has included new panel work and a lower respray in its original green colour. He has also been through the brakes and master cylinder, as well as the suspension, shock absorbers and added fresh tyres.

The van is now in very presentable condition, retaining its original interior which is what collectors seem to be favouring these days. Complete with awning, this tax and MOT exempt camper is ready for its new owner to go and ‘live the dream’ and is only being offered becuase the owner's head has been turned by a new project.
