This September ’68 Morris Minor is as good as it looks, and if you look closely, you’ll spot it has a multitude of upgrades including wider wheels, a much-improved interior, a new hood, a throatier exhaust and disc brakes.
In fact, a quick tot up of the many invoices on file show that around £17,000 has spent on improvements! Converted from a fixed head to convertible in 2004, the conversion went on to include fitment of a pokier 1,275cc Morris Ital engine with skimmed and ported unleaded head plus a slick Ford Type-9 five speed gearbox which means that it is now more than capable of keeping up with modern traffic.
To help it stop as well as it goes, the car features a disc brake conversion courtesy of a Ford XR3 and also benefits from a front anti-roll bar, a lower stance, wider wheels and an alternator conversion. To help keep corrosion at bay the door tops are stainless steel and the lovely green leather interior comes from Newton.
Our vendor has enjoyed the car at local shows and Sunday runs over the last four years. Although MOT exempt, the car has a current ticket until December 2018 with no advisories, the history file also containing a host of old MOTs along with photos depicting a body restoration prior to conversion.
Any hot Minor is a cool notion, but a hot convertible to enjoy the warmer summers we seem to be experiencing of late is undoubtedly cooler than cool. We like it a lot and we suspect you will too.
