Launched as a Roadster in 1962, the MGB has gone on to become one of the most popular classic sportscars of all time, a GT coupe version joining the range in 1965 and remaining in production right up until 1980.
First registered in August 1981, some time after production had ceased, this late model GT looks like a very practical proposition. It is in regular use with a working overdrive and good tyres. The door shuts are particularly good, with good paintwork in Pageant blue and a comprehensive folder and schedule of invoices dating back to 1990.
These list a number of improvements over the last few years, including lowered suspension, a new fuel pump, battery and high-torque starter. The engine has been given a tune-up and electronic ignition added, along with most recently a new alternator.
Fitted with a Motolita steering wheel and stainless wheel trims, the car is MOTd until the end of May 2019 which lists just one advisory. The extensive history file includes 31 old MOTs showing how the indicated 105,000 miles has accumulated over the years.
The vendor advises us that there are inevitably a few areas which could be improved – the seat covers being the most obvious one, although they don’t detract from the fact that this is already a very usable and presentable example which can be driven away from the sale.
