Launched in 1968, the TR6 used Karmann consultants to sharpen up the looks of the outgoing TR5.

Using the same centre section to keep down costs, the new car was to be the best selling TR yet, with 94,619 finding customers before it was replaced by the controversial TR7 in 1975. Over 90% were exported leaving just 8,370 for the UK market.

They were fast, long legged, sounded fabulous and had a lovely wooden dashboard, making the TR6 a most appealing traditional British sportscar.

Purchased by the vendor in 2006 from a good friend, this smart 1973 example made its way to the US when it was first made, arriving back on these shores in 1999 at which time it was converted to RHD. Since entering the vendor’s hands, it has been extremely well cared for.

In 2011 the engine was removed and fully reconditioned by Malvern Rebore. The work included a rebore, new pistons, a crank regrind, new bearings, thrust washers, cam followers, a new oil pump, timing chain and rocker shaft. The bill for this work was £1,559.

While the engine was out, the owner detailed the engine bay, including fitting a new aluminium radiator. The gearbox was also rebuilt by a local engineer and an overdrive (reconditioned) fitted the first time.

The leather upholstered seats were swapped for modern units from an MX5. The originals are included in the sale, although the vendor thinks that once the new owner has tried them, the appeal of the replacements becomes obvious, especially as they are fitted with inbuilt speakers in the headrests.

It has an excellent hood, a tonneau cover tailored to fit the higher seats and a few nice additions such as the analogue clock on the dashboard.

MOTd until June 2019 with no advisories, it is only on offer through lack of use and is ready for immediate enjoyment.
