First registered in August 1971, this BGT MkII has the improved all-synchro gearbox, stronger back axle and alternator charging system that were added to cars from 1968 onwards.
It has had just four owners over the last 30 years or so, being acquired by the vendor through Brightwells in good condition three years ago, since when it has been further improved. At some point in the past, the car was treated to a bodywork restoration which included new old stock front wings, an aluminium bonnet, front bumper, valance, grille and lights. It also had new rear wings and a bottom half respray, the process being documented in photos on file.
When acquired, the car was essentially in rude good health and had already been treated to various upgrades including a tuned Stage 1 engine with big valve unleaded head, performance camshaft and stainless steel exhaust with ‘banana’ manifold. The brakes had also been uprated as had the suspension with parabolic springs and Spax shock absorbers all round. Minilite-style alloy wheels were fitted (including the spare) which are well-shod. The car also benefits from a Webasto sunroof for all those hot summer days.
Since then, the four-speed gearbox and overdrive have been professionally rebuilt, a comprehensive set of invoices (totalling over £2,400) show what work has been done. In addition, a reconditioned starter has been added, new wheel bearings and a leather seat kit.
MOTd until March 2019 and fastidiously maintained, its owner had always intended it as a keeper, but has reluctantly decided that it has to go as he is just not using it.
