The Heritage Certificate which accompanies this 1978 MGB GT tells us that it was built between 28th February and 1st March 1978 and despatched later that month.

Forty years on, the car looks as fresh as ever; helped, no doubt, by the total nut and bolt restoration that was carried out between 1997 and 2003. The history file with this car details bills to the tune of £7,000 and there is an accompanying photographic record.

The car has covered 14,000 miles since the rebuild, which is enough to settle the car in, but not enough to wear it out. It was carefully rebuilt to original specification, with only a handful of minor deviations from standard: the rather nice wooden-rimmed steering wheel, K & N-style air filters and – this is the best bit – a change in upholstery. It is now a rather sombre black; it was, Lord help us, orange and brown. Not one of the most inspired colour combinations nor one that has stood the test of time. Try not to think of it.

Other improvements include an unleaded cylinder head conversion, electronic ignition and upgraded brakes. The Rostyle wheels are original and don’t they suit the car?

The vendor has owned the car for the last six years and the MOT certificates show that it has been used regularly and its general condition shows that it has been cared for. The current MOT expires in July 2019 and has two picky-picky advisories which could be sorted out in a couple of hours. The new owner should have little else to do other than drive the car and keep it clean.

A practical classic that could be driven the year round; and at a very reasonable estimate. What are you waiting for?
