All Land Rovers should look like this. If this Land Rover were a man, it would make Oliver Reed look like Gwyneth Paltrow.
First registered in November 1963, it’s a Series IIA 88” model, but you don’t need us to tell you that, you spotted it straight away. You may also have spotted that it needs a little bit of attention, but you would not restore it, would you?
What you may not have spotted from the photographs is that this Landie has had a heart transplant in the form of a Ford V6 engine conversion. That makes it a little more interesting.
YUD 689 had a bit of a roasting from the MOT tester back in 2002 (MOT on file) but there is an (undated) invoice that suggests its faults were rectified (at a cost of £830). It passed its last MOT in April 2008 with no advisories, so it can’t be all bad.
This not a vehicle that will be rejuvenated in a weekend with a tin of STP, a wire brush and a rattle-can, but it will be a rewarding project for the right man or woman (but not, probably, Gwyneth Paltrow). Documentation includes seven old MOTs, a V5C, some past invoices and various bits and pieces of correspondence and parts lists. More fun than Meccano: go to it!
