The Capri went through three generations of development, the MkIII appearing in 1978 and continuing until production finally came to an end in December 1986.

From 1982 onwards the top-of-the-range model was the 2.8 Injection with a 160bhp engine and 5-speed gearbox that was good for 130mph. From 1984 the Injection Special added a limited slip diff, half-leather Recaro sports seats, colour-coded grille and headlamp surrounds and seven-spoke RS alloy wheels.

First registered in Halesowen in October 1985, this Mineral Blue 2.8 Injection is more special than most as it is one of only a handful of Capris that were specially modified by Northampton-based Turbo Technics, a conversion which was sanctioned by Ford and could be sold and maintained through the official dealer network.

Fitted with a turbocharger, revised exhaust manifold and a sports exhaust which boosted power to 200bhp and 247lb/ft with bags of low down torque, it could sprint to 60mph in 6.5 seconds with a top speed of 143mph. To cope with the extra performance it also gained uprated brakes and suspension and a special bodykit comprising colour-coded front grille, a deeper front spoiler, side-skirts, and a massive Cosworth RS500-style ‘tea tray’ rear spoiler.

An under-bonnet plaque and invoices on file show that this car was modified by Turbo Technics in December 1990/January 1991 at a cost of over £2,500 which also included rebuilding the engine and gearbox which had done 45,000 miles at that point – a total which has since only risen to 67,015 miles. A stainless steel exhaust system was also fitted for a further £400.

The Capri is supplied with a large history file from new including the original service book which is stamped 12 times with many additional invoices, the last service being carried out only a few hundred miles ago. The underside has also been professionally rust-proofed and regularly cleaned for a previous owner who kept the car from 1987 to 1998. More recently, the car has had new fuel pipes and further preventative wax oiling. The file also contains much technical literature about the model, including three workshop manuals from different publishers and comes with a advisory free MOT until June 2019.

The icing on the cake is a nice and transferable private plate.
