Utterly unpretentious yet utterly competent in all departments, the Morris Minor has had a devoted following ever since it was launched way back in 1948.

Spacious, economical and above all fun to drive, it had a classless appeal that made it just as welcome at country house parties as it was at the village fete. Over 1.6 million were sold before production finally came to an end in 1971 and to prove just how good they are, over 20,000 are still UK-registered today, the vast majority of them remaining in regular use.

First registered in March 1966, this lovely Morris Minor two-door has had just three owners from new, according to the V5C, the first keeping it right up until 2010 and the current lady owner acquiring it in 2015. In typical Moggie style it has always been in light regular use, the copious history file showing that it has covered some 28,000 miles in the last 24 years.

Clearly well looked after, it has many invoices to show much recent expenditure including an engine rebuild in 2012 with new big end bearings, unleaded head etc, since when it has only covered some 6,000 miles. Electronic ignition was fitted in 2017 and in January this year it also received a new timing chain, a new clutch and a full service at a cost of £983 (invoice on file). Other invoices and a CD of images indicate that the bodywork was restored in 2015.

In sparkling condition throughout with gleaming chrome and paintwork, a smart red vinyl interior with excellent carpets and headlining, it drove beautifully when we took it for a spin on the occasion of our visit, attracting many admiring glances from passing traffic. All it needs now is a caring fourth owner who can continue to cherish it for future generations to enjoy. Makes you proud to be British, doesn’t it?

AMENDMENT: We are advised that the engine on this car has been very recently rebuilt once again and has covered less than 100 miles since.
