The 2CV format was already well established when the Dyane made its first appearance in January 1968.

The clean-cut styling of the newer car allowed it to outsell the original within the first year (99,000 against 58,000). Okay, the 2CV outsold the Dyane three years later in its final production year, but the Dyane soldiered on in production until 1984, testament to just what a good car it was.

Although driven all the way from Dublin to the sale, this one has spent most of its life in the UK, wearing the number YRW 361X. It had four owners while resident here according to Experian, the vendor buying it in 2017 and taking it back to his native Ireland.

A large file of invoices track its history from new, the original purchase invoice from Dell Motors in Coventry totalling £2,845, with virtually every subsequent invoice still in the file. Within the last few years, and very few miles, it has had new king pins, a new carburettor and electronic ignition. The current owner has also spent a considerable sum improving the car, with bills from various suppliers totalling some 2,300 Euros for detailed items, including seat covers, a new screen, n/s sill and associated paintwork.

Now in very presentable condition on top and solid and sound underneath, it comes with 22 old MOTs, its original paperwork, club magazines, invoices, Haynes manual and a French brochure. Currently registered in Ireland, it will come with a NOVA number which will make its re-registration in the UK a straightforward procedure if that’s where its new owner intends to keep it.

The survival rate of Dyanes is nothing like that of the 2CV, which is a shame, as they offer a more contemporary and practical alternative in the same easy to own package.
