Launched to a dumbfounded public in 1959, the Alec Issigonis-designed Mini introduced a whole new concept in car design.

Perfectly timed to capture the revolutionary mood of the Swinging Sixties, it crashed through the traditional class barriers that had surrounded British cars up to that point and everybody wanted to be seen in a Mini. No wonder the basic shape remained unaltered for an incredible 40 years.

However, there was no denying that the Mini was somewhat spartan and in the early 1960s Bill Wood and Les Pickett, both ex-Hooper coachbuilders, spotted a gap in the market to gentrify the little car both inside and out, thereby establishing the Wood & Pickett brand that flourishes to this day.

This lovely Mini City E Automatic was sold new by Roy Chapman Ltd of Berkhamstead to a lady from Guildford for £4,883 in July 1987 (invoice on file). It has since had three further owners and has covered only 29,350 miles to date with an excellent service history comprising 12 stamps in the book (the last at 26,450 miles in 2008) plus many invoices including one for another service only recenty at 28,982 miles.

Finished in Diamond White with a two-tone Bitter Chocolate interior, it received the Wood & Pickett treatment in June 2008 at a cost of £2,117 when the mileage was 26,450. This included new upholstery; West of England cloth headlining; burr walnut dash with extra gauges; integrated radio/CD system; sports steering wheel; W&P overmats; new grille; new bumpers; new wheels and tyres; new Monza-style fuel cap; stainless steel door mirrors and windscreen wipers; new door and boot handles; chrome number plate lamp plus numerous other bespoke details.

In eye-catching condition throughout and driving beautifully on test, it has an MOT until May 2019 with no advisories recorded and also has many old MOTs, all its original handbooks and two sets of keys. What more could you want?
