Launched in 1984, the VW Golf GTi MkII carried on where the immortal GTi MkI had left off, instantly becoming the most desirable ‘hot hatch’ of the Eighties.

Available as a three- or five-door hatchback, it was powered by a fuel-injected 8v 1.8-litre developing 112bhp and shot to 60mph in just 8.1 seconds with a top speed of 112mph. Handling was superb, as was build quality, and these tough little sportscars can rack up huge mileages with ease.

Dating from August 1991, this three-door GTi has covered just under 147,000 miles to date and comes with a large history file from new to document regular upkeep over the years, including a service book with 13 stamps up to 131,429 miles in April 2010, many of them at main agents, plus many additional invoices.

In the current ownership for the last five years, it has been barely used during this period, spending most of its time tucked up nice and warm in a heated unit as part of a collection of classics also owned by the vendor. Starting promptly and running nicely as we moved it around for these photos, it appears to be in good and highly original order throughout (apart from the aftermarket Momo Competition steering wheel).

Always well-maintained and due to have a new MOT in time for the sale, it comes with the aforementioned service history, original owner’s bookpack, many old MOTs and a Haynes workshop manual.
