For many, the Capri 280 ‘Brooklands’ was the last and best of the line, with only 1,038 leaving the factory. It used the same 160bhp engine as the 2.8 Injection (good for 130mph) but had various special features including a limited slip diff, Brooklands Green paintwork, full leather Recaro sports interior and special 15” alloy wheels.

First registered in January 1988, this example has covered 97,600 miles to date in the hands of just four owners. The vendor, a respected village garage proprietor acquired the car in May 1998, transferring it to his wife in February 1999 who used the car sparingly. It was decided to properly restore it, the job taking six years before being put back on the road in May 2009 at 92,625 miles.

The shell was stripped and sand blasted. New OE front wings, front panel, slam panel and head lamp bowls were fitted and the car re-sprayed. New front and rear bumpers were fitted along with new rear springs, rear anti-roll bar bushes, front flexi brake hoses, front wheel bearings, heater matrix, blower motor, inner wing splash shields, prop-shaft centre bearing and clutch. A reconditioned power steering rack, front callipers and radiator were also added.

The cylinder heads were converted for use with unleaded fuel and the fibre timing gear replaced with steel items.

Since then, the car has seen limited summer use covering only 4,000 miles over the last nine years. The car has been retro-fitted with a Toad security system at the request of the vendor's insurers.

It is supplied with a selection of old MOTs, some invoices and a current MOT until September 2019 with no advisories. Values of the 280 Brooklands have shot up in recent years with only 406 survivors still registered in the UK according to the latest DVLA figures.
