New decade, new car: 1980 saw the launch of the Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit - longer, wider, lighter and with 30% more glass, the Spirit shook off the shadow of its predecessor. Same engine and gearbox, though: 6,750cc alloy V8 and GM THM400 auto ‘box, a winning combination if ever there was one.

This gorgeous example of Crewe’s finest has had just two owners from new, the current since 2009, with a warranted mileage of just 41,651. It has an extensive file of documents and service receipts showing that it has been well-maintained throughout its 34 years to date.

The file includes the original delivery note from Crewe, owner’s handbook and service books (in their original folder), the factory warranty card (dated 2nd August 1984) and a Rolls Royce guide to BBC radio stations (well you wouldn’t want to listen to that commercial rubbish, would you?). Also included are numerous service and maintenance receipts, a collection of old MOTs and tax discs and two sets of keys.

The vendor reports that the car starts first time and drives very well. He says the car is in very good condition and has no mechanical faults. There are some slight marks on the paintwork (Silver Sand over Walnut) but nothing significant, and the beige leather upholstery is very good with only the driver’s seat showing some signs of wear. It has an MOT valid until July 2019 with only one minor advisory (n/s/f suspension arm ball joint has slight play) which is something the new owner’s man should be able to fix in no time.

This Rolls-Royce is in good condition for its age and is no doubt good for another 34 years at least. Running costs will not be insignificant, but given the very reasonable estimate, ownership of this car should not break the bank and a good-looking car like this will be sure to earn its keep in the wedding hire business.
