Peugeot 153 BRA

Sitting towards the top of their range, the high-quality Peugeot 153 BRA may have been fiscally rated at 15CV, but presumably the French used Heavy Draft Horses as a yardstick versus the British governments Shetland Ponies, for it had a lusty, long-stroke 2,961cc four-cylinder side-valve engine which blessed the car with plenty of performance.

Offered from 1921 until 1925, it was part of Peugeots bewildering range of cars and came with plenty of choice when it came to coachwork.

Imported from France in about 2006, this rolling chassis is remarkably complete, even down to a full set of instruments, headlights and running gear, although the dynamo doesn’t seem to be present. It also has large and impressive front-wheel brakes.

The paperwork file shows a bill of sale in 2006 from its French owner, plus a dating letter from Peugeot, itself stamped December 1933, showing the chassis to have left the works in June 1924.

The file also includes a splendid parts book in startling condition, along with other useful information which should make the new owner’s job a bit easier. There is a spare bonnet and some running board brackets are also included.

Over the years, quite a bit of work has been done to the project, although there is still plenty to do, including new coachwork, but what fun that will be, creating a stunning, large capacity French touring car to one’s own design.
