Undoubtedly one of the greatest saloon cars of all time, the Jaguar MkII was launched to huge acclaim in 1959. It was an instant success on both road and track, the MkII was quick to dominate contemporary saloon car racing in the hands of drivers like Stirling Moss and Roy Salvadori, and driven by the Police and criminal fraternity alike!

This lovely Jaguar is something of a “wolf in sheep’s clothing” having been restored using a 2.4 litre body shell.  It was purchased by the Vendor in 2005 when the 3.8 unit was replaced with a 4.2 with a crisp Moss four speed manual gearbox with Overdrive.  It is said to be extremely rapid, and certainly felt so on the day we took the photographs thanks to its extra cubes and lower final-drive.

The Jaguar is in fine condition with excellent shut lines and paint finish. The sills have been replaced, and the doors properly restored, an area which is notoriously difficult to get right, and very obvious when its wrong! Registered with the DVLA as a 1963 MkII 3.8, there are some old MOTs on file along with various invoices.

According to the vendor, recent work carried out includes new brake discs, pads, callipers and pipes. Also a new fuel tank and lines, a carburettor rebuild, upgraded cooling system with a new water pump, a re-cored radiator and electric fan and a fresh windscreen. The bumpers and various other chrome parts were sent for re-chroming. A new heater matrix and hoses, plus a new steering box complete the work. At the time of our visit the Vendor did not have invoices to substantiate this work, but you can see form the condition of the car that plenty of money has been spent!

MOT’d until April 2019 with no advisories, it sports the desirable colour combination of British Racing Green with an immaculate parchment hide interior. This has to be the MkII to have if you want a stunning car to drive and enjoy, without having to shell out for a full matching numbers example which would likely cost twice as much.
