At one point, 90% of BMC’s big Healey output went over the water to America; this is one that made it back.
It’s a 1965 Mk III BJ8 Phase, which means, amongst other things, that it was the best-selling version blessed with the high output 150bhp version of the 3,000cc straight six engine and – handy this - power-assisted bakes. The Heritage Certificate for the car also notes that this one came with wire wheels, adjustable steering column, laminated windscreen and a heater. Yes, a heater was still an option in 1965. Happy days!
MVG 130C returned to this country in 1995 and was converted to right-hand-drive shortly afterwards. The current owner bought the car in 2006 and has had it repainted in Old English White. There are signs of minor body repairs to the car but it is substantially original and the only notable non-standard items are the electronic ignition and side-exit exhaust system.
The car is an honest example of a well-loved classic car. It's no trailer queen and there is room for some improvement but nothing that should keep it from being used. It has a current MOT (September 2019 with no advisories) and has required only minor attention over the past 13 years - an earthing fault on the indicators in 2008 being the most serious!
This big Healey is a sound example of a real classic sports car. It has only covered around 4,000 miles in the last thirteen years and will appeal to the owner who is looking for a car to use and improve. Something to occupy you during the coming winter, perhaps?
