The Hudson Motor Company began making cars in Michigan in 1909 and stayed in business until 1957.

The company had a number of firsts for the car industry including dual brakes, the use of dashboard oil-pressure and generator warning lights, and the first balanced crankshaft which allowed the Hudson straight-six engine, dubbed the ‘Super Six’, to work at higher revs while remaining smooth, developing more power for its size than rival lower-speed engines.

From 1919 to 1933 Hudson also produced the Essex brand of cars, slightly cheaper versions of the Hudson to compete with the likes of Ford and Chevrolet. By 1930, Essex was in the number three slot, offering more mechanical sophistication than the Ford and better build quality than both.

This fine looking RHD tourer comes from a deceased estate, so sadly there are limited details available. It has never been registered in the UK, which will be a job for its new owner although appears to have been restored relatively recently, although we are not sure when it last ran.

Possibly an Australian or New Zealand Import, it will make a super family car, which would also be useful in VSCC events including the active trials scene. It is being sold with some useful looking spares and looks mighty enticing at the suggested guide price.
