Those of you with a deep and abiding interest in all things Ferrari will be able to put a date on this 355 F1 Spider (one of only 1,053 produced), but the rest of the world might see it and think it new. It is, in fact, 20 years old. Only a discreet identification plate on the doorpost gives the game away: February 1998.

R5 ODU spent the greater part of its life in sunny California and was only imported early last year. The car was given a full, engine-out service in May 2017 and an annual service in May of this year. The service booklet and paperwork that accompany the car show that it was well cared-for by its original owner and substantiate the recorded 47,550 miles.

The 355 designation refers to the 3.5 litre engine capacity and Ferrari’s use of five valves per cylinder for the 375bhp V8 engine. The F1 suffix indicates that the car has the Formula One-style steering wheel-mounted paddles that operate the electro-hydarulic manual transmission – a first for a road-going Ferrari.

R5 ODU also has a number of Scuderia additional options, including the Challenge rear grilles, enamelled badges and sports exhaust system – with the roof down who needs in-car entertainment?

The car is MOTd until the end of April 2019 with no advisories and comes with its original tool kit, American documentation, service history, UK invoices, service manuals and owner’s handbooks.
