Built and designed in Crewe under BMW’s short-lived stewardship and named after a famous corner at Le Mans, the Arnage Green Label was to be all new, and featured BMW’s proven 4.4 V8 with the addition of twin turbos and input from those experts at Cosworth.

With 349bhp and 420lb/ft, the car had impressive mid-range and low-down punch, weighed less than the out-going model (and those that followed it), boasted a five speed automatic gearbox giving greater flexibility and much improved economy over the four-speed 6.75 lump. The Green Label cost over £170,000 when new in 1998 before any bespoke options were considered.

This 1999 model boasts a unique spec, as with any Arnage, and features dash top mounted flip up Garmin sat nav; period car phone; rear parking sensors; Alpine CD stereo and multi-changer; individual electric rear seats; electric heated memory front seats; a forest worth of walnut; several cows worth of cream leather and deep lambswool carpets to sink your feet into after a tough day at the hedge fund. Should it ever get a puncture, the chauffeur benefits from white cotton gloves to change the wheel while you trade equities under your boot-mounted Bentley umbrella.

The car has covered a modest 103,000 miles and has been well maintained, the service book showing no fewer than 18 stamps by Bentley main agents and marque specialists, the last in March 2018, plus many supporting invoices. Other recent work includes an air con re-gas, front discs and pads, rear pads and brake pipes and battery. In the past couple of years it has also had replacement fuel pipes and rear suspension spheres along with rectification of a common ailment, a replacement indicator stalk. Supplied with all its handbooks, it also has a tailored indoor cover and comes with an MOT until March 2019 showing four minor advisories.

Rarely does such opulence and quality come at such an affordable price. Pop a private plate on and it will still turn heads and look perfectly at home parked outside Harrods for a spot of Christmas shopping.
