Another of the trusty, dependable, go-anywhere Land Rovers on offer today, this old 2,051cc diesel S2 88” has had just three owners from new in March 1961 and has been in our vendor’s possession for the last 18 years but he has in fact known it from new, and knew both previous keepers.

After replacing a cracked head when he acquired it in 2000, the vendor used it for a couple of years before parking it up in his barn where it was to remain for the next 10 years. In 2013 he opted to get it going again, having the diesel pump refurbished and generally giving it a good going-over and removing the gearbox for an overhaul. Unfortunately, he then fell ill and the Landy remained in the barn until Autumn this year when it was once again pulled out, the diesel pump serviced again, and the vehicle checked over.

The original gearbox is still separate to the truck, although another gearbox from a later vehicle is currently fitted. The original wheels are also off and are in the back, with another set fitted as seen in the photos on our website. The hard-top was already fitted when the vendor acquired it, but he recalls it was originally fitted with a canvas tilt.

Said to start, run and drive, the truck would doubtless benefit from a degree of recommissioning before sallying forth once more after its period of slumber. The vendor had protected the underside with a coating of old engine oil prior to storage, and he also mentions that it has a cabin heater to help keep you warm(ish!) in the winter. The history file includes a V5C, handbooks and a few old invoices.
