One of legendary stylist Harley Earl's most outstanding designs, the fibreglass-bodied Chevrolet Corvette was launched in 1953 and has remained in production in one form or another right up to this day. America’s only mass production real sportscar, each generation has its own fans.

The third generation C3 cars, produced from 1968 to 1983, are particularly distinctive and were based on the Mako Shark show car penned by stylist Bill Mitchell. His inspiration was a Mako shark that he caught while deep-sea fishing off the coast of Florida in 1961. Low, wide and very aggressive, the C3 Stingray is every schoolboy’s dream of how a sportscar should look.

The example offered here was imported into the UK in 2017 from Pennsylvania and comes with a copy of its US Title. Unusually for cars of this type and age it remains largely original, with its original engine and gearbox.

The buildsheet shows it was ordered with the more powerful L82 350ci motor, mated to an M20 4-speed manual gearbox. Built in August 1973, it was the 420th car made and was originally Corvette Orange with power steering, power windows, bucket seats, N37 Tilt steering wheel, white letter tyres and the Gymkhana suspension package. It has the removable T-Top roof panels for the best of both worlds - Coupe and Convertible.

On arrival in the UK it was already in its current colour, 922 Corvette Medium Blue Metallic, which looks gorgeous. To ensure top performance, the owner dispatched the car to Thunder Road Cars of Cheshunt, leading American road and race car specialists. This included a full brake system overhaul, including master cylinder, calipers, discs and all hoses. New door and ignition locks and fuel tank followed, with work on the pop up headlights that now operate smoothly on their vacuum system. All power steering hydraulic components and hoses have been also renewed, the front bumper resprayed and overall the car looks great. The Corvette also boasts a new MOT valid until 6th November 2019!

With bills on file amounting to £7,300 in the past year, this thorougly sorted 'Vette is ready for a 2019 of rumbling V8 fun!
