Eminently usable earlier R129 Merc SL featuring the 190bhp 3.0 straight-six mated to four-speed automatic transmission with sports and economy modes finished in light blue metallic with grey leather interior, walnut trim, heated electric seats and cruise control.

The car retains its original, removable factory hard top and features a considerable history file to back up its modest 87,444 miles including the owner’s pack and service book showing 15 stamps and a file of invoices dating back to the early 2000’s. Recent works during summer 2017 include cosmetic refurbishment to the hard top, bonnet and both front wings at a cost of £1,080, new brake pipes and replacement of the plastic windows of the soft top. Some time prior to this in April 2007 the mohair soft-top was renewed ensuring the car was kept in usable and presentable order.

The history file also contains current and past V5Cs, numerous old tax discs, SORN notices, 16 old MOTs showing only limited usage of about 3,000 miles p.a. over the last 12 years and a current MOT running until August 2019 with one advisory recorded. There are two historic purchase receipts on file, the earliest being from when the car was only one year old and changed hands for a not inconsiderable £53,000 back in August 1994! The other for £16,250 in January 2008.

R129s have surged in popularity in recent times and this smart example, with its considerable history file and more economic powertrain than the 5.0 V8 version with a not dissimilar amount of real world go, represents a choice opportunity to bag a good one at sensible money.
