Introduced in late 1927 and marketed as ‘The Nippy Ten’, the Rover 10/25 was based on the earlier Rover 9/20, which it replaced, and remained in production until 1933 by which time some 15,000 had been sold in saloon and tourer form.

The car was conventional with leaf spring suspension all round: half-elliptic at the front, quarter-elliptic at the rear, rigid axles, and four-wheel drum brakes. Rated at 10hp for taxation purposes but quoted as developing some 25bhp at 3,600 rpm (hence its 10/25 model designation), it was powered by a four-cylinder 1,185cc OHV engine mated to a three-speed manual gearbox and was capable of 55mph with 28mpg economy.

First registered in December 1930, this Rover 10/25 Saloon appears to be in unmolested original condition with the appealing air of authenticity that is at the heart of the charm of any vintage car. Yes, there are signs of wear and tear here and there, but have you looked in the mirror recently?

The car’s interior is equally appealing with its understated woodwork trim and Rexine upholstery – all showing signs of wear, but not too shabby. The car is also blessed with a large sunroof, which was a factory extra in 1930, along with the trafficators, and rear-mounted luggage rack.

The car is in sound condition and has recently been serviced, with new oils, greases, battery etc. It has also recently been treated to a set of new Longstone three-stud tyres. The vendor tells us the car is ‘on the button’ and it even has an MOT to August 2019 with no advisories although, of course, it no longer needs to be subject to this test.

Documentation includes a V5C, VSCC buff form, instruction manual and sundry club magazines.
