Dating from February 1983, this Ferrari 308 GTBi is one of the last of the mechanical fuel injection cars that had been introduced in 1980 to replace the carburettor-fed 308 GTB.

One of only 494 built, it was purchased by our vendor in the summer of 1993 with some 36,400 miles on the clock and was enjoyed regularly, clocking up another 12,000 miles over the next few years and sharing garage space with a Mondial and a 355 Spyder. Eventually the time came when it was due for an overhaul and it was taken off the road, the odometer now showing just under 48,500 miles.

Carefully dismantled and stripped of all parts, the body was restored with repairs to the panels and structure as required and is now in primer on a rotating spit awaiting a repaint in its original Rosso Red. Most of the mechanical parts have been cleaned, examined and either refurbished or replaced, much of the suspension being renewed including the Koni shocks, bushes and springs.

The engine is currently at Ferrari specialists MDL of Telford who have stripped and inspected it and found the heads, crank, liners, four cams, con rods and pistons to be sound. The vendor’s plan was to fit new shells, bearings, sodium filled valves, guides and piston rings. The loom is presently with Auto-electrics awaiting further instruction. The black leather interior is present and believed complete, along with all five wheels, exhaust system, lights, all glass, centre console, headlining etc, and will come boxed with the car.

The whole project has been carefully documented in many invoices and photos on file (a good selection of them shown on our website) and created much interest in the Ferrari Owners Club, an article about the restoration appearing in the club magazine in June 2016. With most of the hard work done, the car now seeks a new owner with the energy and enthusiasm to put it all back together and get the job finished.

Many long winter nights lie ahead of us and there can be few more rewarding ways of filling them than by completing your own life-size Ferrari jigsaw puzzle. Get stuck in and you could have it back on the road by spring.
