Purchased by the current keeper way back in 1979 with just two previous owners, this 1973 Volkswagen 1300cc Beetle shows only 68,165 miles on the clock which is believed to be correct.
On offer here from a deceased estate, the late-owner was an engineer employed at the University of Aberystwyth and we are told that he took great pride in his Beetle, carrying out all the servicing himself. There is MOT history for the car from 2013 showing that it has covered only 2,786 miles in the last five years, the most recent MOT having expired in June 2018 with no advisories.
This is a nice unmolested Beetle in an attractive colour that requires no great attention. It started easily and ran well as we moved it around for these photos, with all primary functions of the car appearing to work as they should.
Everyone should try a Beetle at least once in their lives. It isn’t just the timeless looks (virtually unaltered for almost seven decades), nor the ingenuity of the engineering (just 18 bolts attaching the body to the chassis), it is the amazing elasticity of the engine that really sticks in the mind, powering the Bug along on what feels like an unburstable wave of gurgling torque.
