Ford Capri 280 Brooklands

The Capri 280 ‘Brooklands’ was the last and, for many, the best of the various Capri models produced by Ford from 1969 until 1986.

Only 1,038 Brooklands models were made, all using the same 160bhp engine and 5-speed gearbox as the 2.8 Injection but with various special features including a limited slip diff, Brooklands Green paintwork, full leather Recaro sports interior and special 15” seven spoke alloy wheels. Not only did the V6 engine sound fantastic, it could also propel the car to a top speed of 130mph.

Supplied new by Bristol Street Motors of Croydon in May 1987, this Brooklands Capri is number 307 of the run and has covered only 75,300 miles to date in the hands of just five owners in 31 years. It comes with an excellent service history including records of all maintenance work from new, its original handbook and service book, original Brooklands brochure and many old MOTs to further warrant the mileage.

Nicely original and unmolested throughout, it benefits from lead-free conversion to the cylinder heads and renewed rear leaf springs. Indeed the whole car presents very well indeed and flew through its MOT in April with only one minor advisory (pitted o/s/f brake disc) which has since been remedied.

A Ford aficionado, the vendor acquired the car in 2009 to join his collection and has used it sparingly, covering only 9,000 miles in nine years. His collection has now outgrown his storage facilities so something has to go, hence its inclusion in our sale today.

One of only 469 Brooklands models still UK-registered today, this low-mileage cracker could yet prove a canny investment at the sensible guide price suggested.
