Launched way back in 1962, the MGB was one of the most successful and long-lived British sports cars of all time. So fundamentally right was the original design that it changed remarkably little over its 18-year production life.

The most obvious change came in 1974 when the elegant chrome bumpers were replaced by rather ugly rubber ones and the ride height was raised to meet new pedestrian safety and lighting requirements in the important American market.

This pretty Roadster dates from 1980, the last year of production, but as someone has already ditched the rubber bumpers in favour of chrome, it still has the attractive looks of the earlier cars and the benefit of overdrive which was standard on the later cars. The bodywork appears exceptionally sound, straight and original – always a big plus with these as build quality wasn’t the best – and we are told by its current owner of 18 years that the 27,557 miles indicated is probably genuine.

At the time of cataloguing we had not had any proof of this, nor had we seen any of the documents that come with the car, but an online MOT history check confirms that it has covered some 14,000 miles since 2008, all of them in the sunny South of France where it has resided these past 10 years. We will endeavour to update the website should any new information come to light.
