The flagship saloon of the BMW range, the 7-Series, was launched in 1977 and has gone through five generations to date.

The car you see here is a third generation E38 model, available from 1995 to 2001, which came with a range of engines from a creamy 193bhp 2.8-litre straight-six to a whisper-quiet V12. All were toweringly capable machines packed with every luxury and driver aid, such as rain-sensing wipers, electronic damper control, ABS, traction control, self-levelling headlamps etc.

Despite their size they were proper driver’s cars in the finest BMW tradition and can still be hustled if required. Build quality was outstanding and the E38 has a fiercely loyal fan base to this day (your cataloguer included).

First registered in August 1993, this early 730i has the smooth and punchy M60 3.0 V8 that produced 215bhp and 290NM of torque. Its had just four owners from new, our vendor having owned it since 2011 and has covered just 73,664 miles. Finished in lovely Astral silver with full grey leather, it boasts electric seats, windows, mirrors, sunroof, rear ventilation, dual zone climate control, cruise control, electric steering column and automatic transmission.

It comes with a limited service history including owner’s pack, service booklet with five older stamps, a VOSA MOT history print-out showing limited use over the past few years and a current MOT until November 2019, with just three minor advisories recorded for handbrake and rear brake pipes being greased.

Your cataloguer has owned three of these wonderful machines (one of which he is still wedded to today) and would have no hesitation in recommending an E38 to anyone.
