Dismissed by some as little more than a Nissan Micra in a Fifties frock we say no, the Figaro is more than that. For a start, it’s not based on the Micra that made it over here.
The Figaro has the Japanese market 980cc turbo engine and automatic gearbox, air conditioning, leather trim and retro dashboard. Throw in the power steering, electric windows and cleverly-pastiched Italianate styling and it’s no wonder they are such a cult car. What a shame they didn’t do an Abarth double-bubble option.
This one is a very tidy example with only 85,000kms on the clock (52,800 miles) that was imported in 2006 and, for the non-Nissan nerd, it’s a 1991 model. The trim on these cars can take a bit of a pounding and look very messy if neglected. This one, however, is still quite chic and looks like its two UK owners (as well as its original Japanese owners) have cared for it. It has recently had new carpets fitted.
The car looks well with its Emerald Green paintwork and cream leather upholstery; the fabric soft-top still retracts nicely and the bodywork shows no signs of rust. It comes with a V5C, sundry invoices, three past MOTs and a new MOT valid until February 2020 with just three minor advisories.
Although the car was never officially imported into the UK there are around 3,000 over here. The spares situation for them is good and there are a number of companies specialising in sales and service.
