Porsche introduced the 944 in 1982, using the 924 as a starting point but radically improving the car in many areas.

This included ditching the old VW engine and replacing it with a new 2.5-litre straight-four that was effectively half of the 5.0-litre V8 in the 928 supercar. Producing 163bhp and with bags of torque, it could propel the 944 to 137mph.

With its front engine, rear transaxle layout, the 944 was a fabulously well-balanced machine that had the measure of the contemporary 911 in many respects. Steadily developed throughout its life, it remained in production until 1991 by which time over 163,000 had been sold, making it one of the most successful Porsches ever made.

Dating from the first year of production, this 1982 Lux has the early square dash and is finished in white with black leather sports front seats, 5-speed gearbox, electric sunroof, windows and mirrors and a Pioneer sound system. It is showing 113,000 miles on the clock which is believed correct and is partially backed up by 8 old MOTs from 2004 – 2013 and a 1990 purchase invoice from Panorama Bay at which point it had covered 42,000 miles.

In storage since 2015, the car has recently been thoroughly recommissioned for sale including a full engine service; new timing belts; wheel bearings; brakes; fuel lines; exhaust; battery; tyres; windscreen; anti-roll bar bushes and ECU with bills on file for parts alone amounting to over £1,600.

Flying through its MOT last April with no advisories recorded, it was driven some 50 miles to the sale and has been starting easily and running nicely as we have moved it around the site at Brightwells.
