The Jaguar XJ6 Series 1 was a handsome beast in its day and a huge success in the sales room and on the open road. Build quality, however, was something else and the majority of early cars are nought but memories these days.

This particular 4.2 is a nice early example with the chrome dials and straight exhaust pipes that were phased out in mid-1969 so although it was not registered until May 1970, it must actually be about a year older than that. Nicely understated in Warwick Grey with cherry red leather, CPF 363H is a real cracker and has only 20,901 miles on the clock which can’t be warranted but may well be correct judging by the overall condition of the car. The spare ignition key is even still in its original place, screwed to the body under the bonnet.

There are six recorded keepers in the log-book, but Mr Taylor of Hayling Island owned the car twice and it is believed that other members of that family may have also owned the car. Documentation includes a V5C, MOT until January 2020 with no advisories, seven past MOTs and an original handbook.

Externally and internally the car is exceptionally smart and only a few minor scratches on the interior fittings show that it has 50 years of history behind it. Only the fastidious buyer will see room for improvement and most of us would be happy with the car as it is today.
