This version of BMW's 5 Series was coded E28 and was styled by Marcello Gandini, who was also responsible for the similar looking Fiat 132 and Alfa Romeo Alfetta (not to mention the Lamborghini Miura).
It was in production from 1982 until 1988 and shared many parts, most notably its engines with the 6-series coupes. The highly successful 5 Series range accounted for over 50% of BMW’s profits for the period and was widely regarded as the finest sporting saloon of its era.
This smart 2.7 litre 525i features another silky, yet pokey BMW six-cylinder engine mated to a four-speed automatic transmission and was specified in LUX spec, featuring charcoal leather interior, period correct X-spoke alloy and retains its original radio cassette player and trip computer.
The car shows just 89,967 miles which is believed correct although sadly, the previous owner misplaced the history file. It comes with the V5C, current MOT and sundry invoices for recent service work.
It has been in storage for the past few years covering little, if any mileage between annual tests. It was recently given a cosmetic make over with full body respray in April 2018 by our vendor, a noted classic Lotus specialist in West wales and really does ‘look the business’.
The E28 5 Series really was a fabulous car, breaking new ground in terms of performance, handling and comfort. This lower mileage example is in excellent condition and is MOT'd until May 2019 with no advisories recorded.
