Lancia unveiled the Flavia, their new mid-range saloon, at the Turin Motor Show in 1960. In typical Lancia fashion, it was sophisticated, avant-garde and priced so that only the wealthy could afford one.

Built at a time when all Lancias were made in RHD, even for their home market, the company clearly weren’t afraid to follow their own path, selling high quality cars to a fanatical customer base. Always beautifully engineered, its not for nothing that Lancias from this era are often referred to as “the thinking man's Alfa Romeo”.

Initially produced with a 1,500cc flat-four engine, the Flavia soon increased in capacity to 1,800cc, and then, in 1969 to 2,000cc. Alongside the cute and boxy saloon, Lancia also showed off an elegant Coupe styled by Pininfarina, a rather weird Zagato-bodied Sport coupe and the Vignale Convertible.

Stylish transport for the captain of industry in the early ‘70s Italy, with bodywork by Farina and a silky smooth 112bhp flat-four engine, this 1970 Lancia Flavia Coupé is a recent import from South Africa and as such is virtually rust-free. Right-hand drive, naturally, it has only 58,299 miles showing on the clock which could be genuine considering the condition of the car, but is something we cannot guarantee.

The car has had some money spent on it recently (tyres, exhaust) but will need a little care and attention to turn it into a very smart and stylish mode of transport. The car is not yet UK-registered but does have South African papers and a NOVA reference which will make registering it here a formality.
