The Porsche 911SC was unveiled at the Frankfurt Show in September 1977 and was available in either Coupe or Targa forms.

Essentially this new 911 was very similar to the previous Carrera 3.0 with the same basic specifications, styling, and features. Power was up slightly from the previous 2.7 model, and a flatter torque curve made the car much easier to drive. In 1979 the SC's engine received modifications increasing the power to 188bhp while improving fuel economy by 10 per cent.

Further improvements in 1980 pushed the power up to 204bhp making it good for 145mph with the 0-60 dash coming up in 5.7 seconds. Simple, quick, and bulletproof, the SC is widely regarded as one of the most user-friendly of all the 911 range and good ones are increasingly sought after.

This lovely 1981 SC Coupe has had just two American owners from new, although you could say it is a one-family-owned car as they are brothers-in-law. The first kept it until 1986 by which time it had covered 29,656 miles, keeping a hand-written service log which is still with the car.

The second owner used the car lightly (well he did have 13 other cars to choose from!) so it still has only 57,183 miles on the clock, backed up by US Carfax reports which record the gradual accumulation of mileage over the years.

Imported a little over a year ago, the car was handed over to Porsche specialists Williams Crawford of Devon for a check-over and to bring it up to UK specification. This was completed in March last year and included a thorough service, new brake calipers, new battery, and an overhaul of the sunroof mechanism including fitting new cables and sliders (invoice on file).

Our roving reporter (owner of several 911s) says that it was refreshing to see a 911 in such original condition and so well cared for. He noted that even the cadmium plating on the oil cooler pipes underneath the car were still bright!

This is a lovely low-mileage 911 in commendably good and original condition. The lucky purchaser will be only the third owner; let us hope he appreciates the car and keeps it in the manner to which it has been accustomed.
