Sweet and typically 80’s, this Tipo 116 Giulietta looks every bit as razor-edge chic as it did when new in April 1983.
Fitted with the zesty 108bhp 1.6-litre twin-cam that sings in that ‘Oh-so Alfa’ way, it maintains its delicate road manners even by today’s standards. A low-owner car, the current enthusiast custodian has spent around £1,000 over his four year ownership, including a new exhaust from the downpipe back, new brake callipers, four tyres and service work incorporating a change of gearbox and transaxle oil. The car’s previous owner had kept it for some twenty years, covering just a few thousand miles during that time.
The history file with the car is limited, the previous owner having misplaced it some time ago, although there are four old MOT certificates which show the mileage to have registered 80,702 in 2003, increasing to just 81,134 by 2018. The current owner has added minimal mileage since and advises us that he intends to put a fresh 12 months test on the car in time for the sale.
Finished in Alfa’s classic red with grey trim inside, the car presents very well indeed and has a nice ‘no frills’ specification - ideal really – so much less to go wrong! It even retains its period radio cassette and steel wheels.
Perhaps not a conventionally pretty Alfa, but its angular functionality and period styling quirks help it stand out from the crowd - not to mention its rarity factor! Go on, be different!
