Introduced in May 1985 to replace the Giuliletta (check out Lot 6!), Alfa's new car was called the 75, in celebration of Alfa Romeo’s 75th anniversary and was a success with over 386,000 being produced.

This smart example lived in a private Alfa collection in Berkshire for many years before being acquired by our enthusiast vendor who set about converting the car the from its original 2.5 V6 automatic running gear to what we have now.

The car was selected for conversion because its condition was so good, having been dry stored and Ziebarted from new. It was stripped and resprayed in its original red with no welding required, the 2.5 auto removed and a 3.0-litre V6 with manual transmission fitted from another 75 donor car who’s body and underside had not been so well preserved, but had covered just 61,000 miles (registration G658 EVH) – the clocks from this car are included with the history file.

A bespoke exhaust system was built by our vendor which sounds fabulous – the car’s 188bhp now being enjoyed as it should, through the manual transmission. Further works carried out include a stunning set of new 16" Speedline multi-hole alloy wheels with black centres. The car’s history file includes its V5C, service book showing nine stamps, seven old MOTs, invoices and a current MOT with no advisories running until August 2019.

The end result is a well-executed rebuild utilising proper 75 parts to create a fun, well balanced and fruity sounding '80’s sports saloon. We like it a lot and it’s a great testament to the technical abilities of the vendor’s son who built the car, who sadly passed away just before Christmas.
