First registered in April 1975, this now-rare Saab 95 V4 Estate has had just three owners, the current since June 1986. It has been sitting in a barn in West Wales for more than 20 years after its last owner disappeared to Australia, leaving the car in lieu of debt with our vendor for some works carried out.
We understand that the engine and transmission were rebuilt, the engine by respected re-manufacturers VEGE and the four speed gearbox by Tylneys Ltd of Halstead, Essex a number of years ago. They were refitted, with the intent of completing the restoration works, although the work never completed.
The engine has not been run since, but we are informed it turns freely from the starter with a good spark. Prior to our vendor turning the engine over after so long standing, fresh oil and a new filter were fitted.
Increasingly rare, this V4 makes a compelling case for restoration, particularly given the engine and transmission were done – it’s even the seven seat version so the quirkiness grows.
Showing 99,986 miles on the odometer and finished in green (Gn 10H), this 70’s Swede has the potential to Win Again (Abba reference there)!
There are no documents, although the number is still recognised on the DVLA database so obtaining a replacement V5C from the DVLA should be a straightforward procedure using form V62 and sending a cheque for £25. Now it’s time to get that welder out!
