“Restored to original condition; like new”, the advert says. But is it? And how good is the restoration? There are often nagging doubts about originality, authenticity and condition when considering a restored classic. Not a problem for this Mini, though. It has not been restored. It really is like new.

Still unregistered and with only 74 miles on the clock, this Mini 25 anniversary model is - to all intents and purposes - new and unused, showroom condition, ‘new old stock’. And 34 years old. It is one of 5,000 limited edition cars produced in 1984 (with only 3,511 for the UK market) to celebrate 25 years of the original pocket rocket.

Based on the MkIV saloon with 998A+ engine, high-ratio 4-speed ‘box, 12” wheels and front disc brakes, all were finished in Silver Leaf with Mini 25 decals, Nimbus Grey velour trim with red piping and 25 logos on the front seats, the seat belts and the steering wheel.

This car still has the original ‘Application for a License for a New Motor Vehicle’ stating the car’s details and those of the original supplier, Dutton Forshaw of Sunderland. It also has the original insurance document from the day of purchase, Warranty Super Cover form, a souvenir programme from the 1984 Donnington Mini 25 Celebration (in which it is believed the car took part), and an original Mini 25 brochure.

Genuine, original, and unregistered. This has to be a car for the serious Mini collector or museum owner. Stick it in the corner and watch it grow – in value if not in stature.
