Launched at the Geneva Motor Show in 1996, the new Jaguar XK8 was the replacement for the venerable XJS which had in turn supplanted the E-Type.

Designed by Geoff Lawson, who had also penned the stunning XJ220, it shared its platform with the Aston Martin DB7 to which it bore more than a passing resemblance. The first Jaguar ever with an eight-cylinder engine, its 4-litre V8 produced 290bhp and could waft the car to an electronically limited 155mph top speed.
The Jaguarscenti will know that this car is 20 years old but, for the rest of us, only the number-plate gives the game away. Change that and you could fool the neighbours into thinking you’ve come into money.

This 1998 Jaguar XK8 is a one-owner car and has led a sheltered life. It also has a very comprehensive service history with Jaguar main dealers, showing 14 main dealer stamps, the last in April 2017 at 60,928 miles. It has a recorded mileage of 62,576 miles, which is backed up by the service and MOT history.

The car’s owner was an accountant who was not a man to throw money about, but knew how to look after an investment and this car is in superb condition. The bodywork, interior, engine bay and boot are all in tip-top condition and even the alloy wheels look as though they have regularly been polished. The car’s current MOT expires shortly before the auction but the vendor assures us that the car will have a new certificate before the sale.
