First seen in 1967, the MGC was BMC's attempt to plug the gap left in its range by the demise of the Healey 3000, without having to build a completely new car.

It used a modified version of the MGB bodyshell and was powered by a tuned twin-carb version of the C-Series straight-six engine used in the Austin 3-Litre saloon. It also had better brakes than the MGB, larger 15-inch wheels, lower geared rack-and-pinion steering and torsion bar suspension with telescopic dampers.. Never properly marketed by BMC, the MGC was quietly shelved in 1969 after just 8,999 examples had been built, half of them roadsters and half GTs.

Nowadays though, because of these low production numbers, the MGC is keenly sought after. With modern tyres and a few subtle suspension tweaks the handling can be transformed and, with a strong torquey engine, they make excellent high speed cruisers.

This lovely MGC is unusual in several ways; firstly the paint colour - Riviera Blue was first seen on the MGC featured at the 1968 London Motorshow although is not a colour you see very often. Secondly this car has only had 3 owners in 41 years!

The first owner, Mr Leviseur took delivery on 11th June 1968 and kept the car for 14 years until he sold it to a friend – Mr Lewis for £1700 in 1982. He would keep the car, using it sparingly until 2018 when it was purchased by the Vendor. The earliest recorded mileage in the history file is from 1991 when it had covered 61,500 miles.

In 1994 it was the subject of a full restoration, with a photographic record on file and a bill for £5,880. Subsequently it appears to have spent some time in storage, despite being recommissioned in 2002 and again in 2012 when the mileage had crept up to 63,822.

Overall the car presents really well and ran beautifully on the day of the photographs. The paintwork has a couple of minor blisters, chrome is generally good and the interior, although used, is nicely original with working radio.

An excellent opportunity to acquire an MGC with less than 65,000 miles in an attractive and rare colour, to enjoy as is, or with minimal effort, take to the next level.
