Mercedes teamed up with Cosworth to develop a special ‘hot’ version of their terrific 190 model. Their partners developed a new 16-valve cylinder head for the 2.3 litre M102 engine which resulted in 185bhp, a 0-60mph time of just 6.7 seconds and 145mph top speed.

The chassis was also upgraded with sports suspension, quicker steering, limited slip diff, ABS brakes, ADS traction control and aerodynamic body-kit reducing lift and drag. It was given a larger 2.5-litre engine in 1988 and remained in production until 1993.

In August 1983, ahead of the official launch, three Cosworths went to Nardo in Italy where they set three world records and twelve international endurance records by running flat out non-stop for 50,000km at an average speed of 154.06mph - an astonishing feat!

This particular 2.5-litre Cosworth dates from 1989 and has spent the last eight years in storage. The Astral Silver coachwork has recently been refreshed while the MB Sports checker trim with half leather looks very inviting as do the individual sports rear seats! The underside of the car is said to be in excellent condition too.

Features include wide 15-hole light alloy wheels, electric windows and it retains its original radio cassette. The car has covered an indicated 125,695 miles, with only 3,000 miles covered since the last MOT in 2010.

Having spent eight years in storage, the car was treated to new discs and callipers at the front along with a service and new clutch master cylinder plus new gear linkage assembly to remediate the sloppiness often found in these boxes. A new set of Yokohama tyres were also fitted all round.

The history file contains the V5C, current MOT running until December 2019 with no advisories recorded and both old and more recent invoices for works carried out.
