Launched in 1963, the 105 Series Giulia GT Coupe was the long-awaited replacement for the gorgeous but dated 101 Series Giulietta Sprint.

It was styled, in just two months, by a virtually unknown 22-year-old who worked on it in the evenings during his national service. That man was Giorgetto Giugiaro, on contract to Bertone, who went on to become one of the most famous car designers of all time. The balance of glass and metal, soft curves and sharp edges broke new ground in car design and proved highly influential. Rightly regarded as an all-time classic, the Giulia Coupe was to remain in production very little altered until 1976.

This right-hand drive 1972 Alfa GT Junior was imported from South Africa late last year and is not yet registered in the UK. It does have a NOVA form to which should make registration simple and it is hoped the car will have an MOT in time for the sale. The vendor assures us that the car is in tip-top form and that it also drives very nicely. It should certainly go well, as it has been upgraded with a period 1,750cc Alfa GTV twin-cam engine. We are also informed that it has had some recent expenditure to make sure all electrics are working perfectly. In addition, a new starter motor, new alternator, new ring-gear, and a full carb rebuild have all been done in the last two months.

The car looks great in its Alfa Rosso paintwork and five-spoke alloy wheels and seems to have benefited greatly from its life in the gentle South African climate. The value of these thoroughbred Italian cars is rising daily, with the best examples already fetching well in excess of the estimate suggested here so this could be a chance to grab a bargain!
