Peugeot’s last rear wheel drive offering and probably the last of those you might easily call ‘tough as old boots’, the 505 was launched in 1979 to replace the aging but rugged 504 series. It soldiered on until the dawn of the all-new FWD 405 in 1992, quite some legacy!

Praised by contemporary journos’ for its ride and handling, particularly on rough, unmade roads – they sold in vast numbers in countries like Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt where they are still a common sight due to their durability and easily repairable design.

First registered in July 1989, this unmolested green left-hand drive, 2.0 petrol, manual GR spec estate has lived at our vendor’s second home in Portugal since 2012, seeing limited holiday use and has been well loved for the last 7 years.

It had only covered 48,511km we he bought it, the car having been sold new to a Portuguese chap who later moved to America, but kept the car at home to use on annual family visits. As a result of such limited use, the car still only shows an indicated 62,096km (38,580miles) from new.

Offered here today still wearing its Portuguese plates, the car has been NOVA registered ready for UK registration should its new owner decide to keep it over here. The history file for the car contains Portuguese MOTs from 2012 to date, plus some sundry invoices including a replacement cylinder head in 2012 shortly after his purchase along with annual services.

This low-mileage 505 estate really is a rare opportunity and something that would be very useful to keep at your second home abroad, with room enough for you, the family, the dog, some more family (it’s got seven seats) and lots and lots of fine local produce.

AMENDMENT: No Service Invoices and was only the Head Gasket replaced together with special bolts.
