‘Chimera’ - monstrous mythical Greek creature made up of parts of various animals - like the DNA of the TVR Chimaera on which its name and perhaps legacy are based, part Griffith with its proven backbone and part Rover V8 at its heart.

Supplied new by Brooklands of Exeter in August 1998, this 4.0 Chimaera kicks out some 240bhp - OK, maybe the ‘baby’ of the range, but enough to see 0-60 in 5.1 seconds and top speed of 152mph – hardly a slouch and all accompanied by that glorious TVR noise.

Finished in Pearl blue with cream hide and walnut trim, the car looks to be in standard tune and spec, with no silly aftermarket wheels or exhausts to detract from Peter Wheeler’s ideology and classic design ethos harking back to the M-series cars of the '70s.

The history file is impressive, this 400 having seen a small fortune spent on it; all documented in chronological order with spreadsheets of all works completed including replacement outriggers in June 2013 at 61,785 miles, a new clutch in May 2010 at 53,090 miles, new wood dashboard in February 2011 and new rear window in February 2009. The service book shows 21 service stamps with supporting paperwork and 18 old MOTs supporting its 76,000 miles. A new MOT will be carried out in time for the sale as the current clean MOT expires this May.

Our vendor having relocated to Australia had planned to export the car, but import restrictions have scuppered this and he is regrettably forced to sell. Good Chimaeras are hard to find, especially cars with the right maintenance history. The 400 is the most usable model offering ample performance with long distance cruising agility combined with Targa roof and large boot, making an ideal travel companion and we predict a great investment.
