A Ford that is not like other Fords, that’s the Racing Puma. Based around the standard production Puma but with factory upgrades that made it more than a little special. And at a cost: over £23,000 in 2000 – more than a Scooby Doo Impreza, would you believe?

You may remember the advertising campaign, Steve McQueen coming back from the dead to hustle the Puma through the streets of San Francisco - pretty impressive it was too. Uprated engine, brakes, suspension, pumped bodywork, snazzy interior and fine tuning by Stig Bolomqvist, plus 153 bhp and 0-60 in 7.9 seconds made the Racing Puma a real pocket-rocket.

One of a limited production run of 500 and with our vendor since 2015 with just five previous keepers, the car looks in standard, unmolested spec, the half blue alcantara and black leather embossed seats in fine order and the Imperial blue bodywork still looking sharp.

The car has clearly been well looked-after after having covered just 75,609 miles, backed up by a service booklet showing ten stamps plus its initial service hand written in July 2001. The history file contains its V5C, owners pack, service booklet, current MOT until April 2020 with no advisories, 13 old MOTs and a selection of invoices including timing belt kit fitment in October 2017 at 74,520 miles, refurbished alloy wheels at 60,000 miles in 2009, routine services and old tax discs.

Plenty of performance but at a cost that won’t break the bank, you could buy a four-year-old Fiesta instead, but where’s the fun in that? (unless it’s the ST, we’ll let you off then) The icing on this particular cake is the ‘FRP’ (Ford Racing Puma) registration which is included in the sale.
